Content Account Manager

Manage and produce content across digital and traditional channels


TYPE: Mid-level, Permanent Position

REMUNERATION: Contract agreement to be discussed

LOCATION:Remote and on-site in Cape Town, Observatory

EDUCATION LEVEL: 5 years of agency experience



Strategic management, planning and implementation of client strategies, including the management and production of effective content across digital and traditional platforms.


Strategic Planning and Project Management

  • Gain a solid understanding of the client’s industry, business and objectives
  • Develop and implement client strategies in conjunction with line managers
  • Set and achieve measurable client objectives and monitor the effectiveness of campaigns
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions and carry out thorough research as required
  • Establish and deliver accurate timelines required to complete the required work
  • Create cost estimates for client approval and monitor and manage budgets for projects/ campaigns
  • Keep abreast with content marketing industry trends

Strategic Content Generation and Distribution

  • Effectively brief and manage content developed by internal and freelance writers/designers
  • Produce content as required for clients, including digital and traditional content
  • Effectively traffic and administrate all content through internal project management systems and processes
  • Check strategic relevance of content against briefs and client objectives
  • Manage content distribution strategically across all media channels, including social media and PR
  • Project-manage the development of design/DTP components
  • Gain client approval on visual components including design/DTP and photography
External Relationship Development and Management
  • Successfully build and manage the client relationships
  • Attend client meetings to provide feedback and status of plans
  • Effectively manage the client briefing process,  expectations and revisions
  • Manage the client approval process
  • Attend to ad-hoc client needs
  • Accountable for the building and managing of strong supplier relationships, including printers, digital suppliers and freelancers. 

External and Internal Reporting and Budget Management

  • Successfully build and manage client relationships
  • Attend client meetings to provide feedback and status of plans
  • Effectively manage the client briefing process, expectations, revisions and approvals
  • Produce timeous reports in line with campaigns and client objectives

Internal Relationship Management and Collaboration 

  • Manage the internal approval process for your projects and campaigns
  • Collaborate and engage regularly with the internal team
  • Manage and use internal content management systems successfully
  • Engage in regular personal and professional development and training in line with your role

Job Evaluation Criteria

Formal Education

Minimum relevant tertiary degree or diploma qualification in Marketing, PR, Communications, Journalism or Media Studies. Honours qualification is an advantage.


Applicants must have a minimum of 5 years’ relevant agency experience, with a focus on:

  • strategic client servicing
  • project management and/or trafficking
  • content generation and distribution across all media channels, including digital / social media
  • relationship development and management


Applicants must be:

  • highly knowledgeable of related industries such as Marketing, Communications, PR and Digital
  • knowledgeable of industries such as Academia; Research; Social Justice; NGOs; Health; Finance and Management Consulting.
  • in tune with current affairs
